Notice Me Page 7
“I know I just couldn’t help it. Do you know she propositioned Charlie last night?” Megan laughed towards the end.
“She didn’t?” Will said horrified.
“Yes, she told him if he slept with her, he could have me. She would sort it all out with father.” Charlie looked embarrassed with this conversation. It didn’t shock me like it had Will. I saw the way Veronica was watching Charlie last night, with greedy eyes.
“For God sakes, is there no one our mother won’t proposition? No offence to you Charlie,” Will replied quickly.
“None taken Will. Don’t worry,” Charlie stared out the window. I could tell he really didn’t want to be included in this conversation.
“I hate her. Father was almost as bad. Beating Charlie down with snobbery. Did you hear all that crap about the national debt?”
“That is only crap to you, Megan. Charlie held his own on that one, and I have to say I think father was rather impressed.”
Charlie was still staring out the window. It had been a stressful few days for him, it looked like he was having some alone time with his thoughts.
“You really think so?” Megan asked.
“Yeah, give him some time. I think he will come round. I will talk to him too of course.”
“Will, you are the best.” Megan placed her hand on her brother’s shoulder. He smiled at her from the rear view mirror.
The drive back did not take as long as the way there. Will and I caught ourselves looking at each other in the mirror now and then. After last night I just couldn’t help myself. I was sure I would have jumped on him if Megan and Charlie hadn’t been in the car. I could not wait to be alone with him again. I had never had an experience so intense in my life. I could safely say business wasn’t the only thing Will was well practiced in.
I was perhaps a novice in this subject. I had a little experience, but never realised just how amazing it really could be. When it is with someone you knew and trusted. Life I doubted couldn’t get much better.
“Well, here we are. Home sweet home.” Will smiled as he pulled up at the Knightsbridge penthouse. “Shannon, did you still want me to help you with that exam question? I am pretty sure I have a few books back at my place that would help.” I caught up on his mood straight away. It was the same as mine.
“You know Will that would be wonderful. It is a really detailed question though. Are you sure you have the time to spare?”
“Yeah, that’s no problem. What are friends for?” Will beamed.
“Will, you are wonderful. I really do not deserve a brother like you. Come on Charlie. Let’s leave them to their boring business talks.” Megan kissed me on the cheek then Will. “See you later.”
“See you guys later.” Charlie had finally come out of his deep thoughts to follow Megan into the apartment.
“How easy was that to get alone time?” Will laughed.
“Too easy,” I replied jumping into the front seat next to him.
“If we weren’t right outside my sister’s penthouse I would kiss you right now,” Will whispered to me. “You are so beautiful Shannon.”
“You better get to your place fast,” I whispered back staring deep into his ocean eyes as my heart skipped frantically.
Will’s apartment in South Kensington wasn’t too far from Megan’s penthouse, but was still far enough away for Will and me to be alone. He had the typical bachelor pad. Minimal black furniture, a large plasma television complete with game consoles. A sleek white kitchen with wonderful views of London. Only the best of everything for the Fields.
Before I had even got both feet through his front door, Will pushed me passionately against the wall, closing the door with one hand while the other hand ran up the left side of my body. His lips traced my bottom lip. I ran my hands through his light brown hair. I began to undo the buttons on his shirt. Running my hands over his bare strong chest, feeling him grip me tighter in pleasure. His hands began to glide to my clothes. My body tingled as I felt his soft skin against mine.
“So we are not going to do any studying then,” I teased as he picked me up in his arms.
“I can think of far better things for us to spend our time doing.”
“As long as it involves your large king bed I am up for that.” Will’s lips were on mine as he carried me into his bedroom.
“What are you thinking?” Will asked later that afternoon while we were wrapped up in each other’s arms still in his bed.
“Just how quickly things have changed,” I laughed.
“Am I going too fast for you? I can slow down, I…”
“Will, don’t worry this is fine. Well, it’s better than fine,” I interrupted kissing his neck.
“I just don’t want you to feel like I am rushing you. I really had no intention of well… last night at my parents I really was only going to wish you a good night.”
“I know that Will, but if you remember I was rather willing,” I teased pulling myself closer to him. “Being close to you this way, it feels right, comfortable. I wasn’t expecting that so soon.”
“That is good to hear. Maybe you will fall in love with me.”
“I am certainly going to try.”
It stunned me how true my words were. I wanted to love him. The problem was, with my past, could I?
The weeks flew by in a blur of happiness. It had been over six weeks, and our relationship was still a secret. I knew I would have to tell Megan soon, or she would be offended.
I cared for Will that was evident, but did I love him yet? I really wasn’t sure. Physically I was completely addicted. I now knew why Megan spent all day locked in her room with Charlie. The problem was the difference between love and lust. I knew one was overruling the other.
“You are very quiet today?” Megan asked me.
“I’m just thinking about my exam paper next week,” I lied.
“You will be fine. I mean with all the extra help Will has been giving you. I have hardly seen you in the last six weeks.”
“You know how I get in test situations.”
“You mean how you used to Shannon. You are not that person anymore.”
“Aren’t I?” I could still feel her deep inside me, screaming to be released.
“No, you are not,” Megan replied with certainty.
“Maybe you are right.”
“Oh, some post came for you. I forgot to say. I left it on the table.”
Megan suddenly got up throwing me a handwritten envelope. I didn’t think much of it until I opened it. Then my body began to tremble. What the hell was going on?
Shannon,
I am not who you think I am.
Do not trust him. He can NEVER love you like me. I am so close you can almost touch me. See me please. I cannot admit my feelings until I know you feel the same. Do not hate me for breaking your happiness. I believe we belong together. When you realise who I am you will understand.
I am yours forever.

“What is it, Shan?” Megan asked with a worried face. I was frozen to the spot.
How could this be, Mr Anonymous was Will? He had confessed six weeks ago. What did this letter mean? Will had lied to me? I felt sick to the pit of my stomach.
“Shannon, what is wrong?” Megan asked again.
“It’s a letter…”
“Is it from him, Mr Anonymous? Let me see,” Megan interrupted taking the letter from my stunned fingers. “What does this mean? Do you know who he is? Shannon, have you been keeping secrets from me?”
“I… I really have no idea what is going on. Will said it was…”
“Oh my God, it’s Will… holy cow! You have been seeing my brother haven’t you? All this time you weren’t studying.” Megan was leaping around almost screaming. It was very hard to concentrate. “Have you slept with… actually, I don’t want to know never mind. You and Will that is great, no… it’s brilliant.” I knew Megan would be pleased, but I hadn’t planned on her findin
g out this way.
“Yes, I am seeing your brother,” Megan was about to butt in probably to yell at me, but I carried on, “but this letter states he is not the one writing them. Which I am worried about. Seeing as he admitted to me he was the one who wrote them over six weeks ago.” I stared blankly at my letter.
“Oh my God, you have two people in love with you. Shannon, I am really impressed… who is the other guy?” Megan asked suddenly worried.
“I have no idea, Megan. Your brother and I are just getting to know each other, it’s not serious yet.”
“Not for you, but I am sure Will has other feelings.” Megan grinned. She had known Will was in love with me from the start. It was Will himself stopping Megan from telling me.
“I know that too, but he is happy to take things slow.”
“I still can’t believe it. You and my brother,” Megan sighed. “It’s the best news I have had in ages. Wait till Charlie finds out.”
“No, please don’t tell Charlie. We are still finding our feet. I am not ready for us to go public yet. I wouldn’t have told you if it weren’t for the letter.”
“You wouldn’t have told me?” Megan asked offended.
“Will and I wanted to tell you together.”
Megan stopped her pout, touched by my words. “Okay I guess I can forgive the pair of you, but this other guy who is he?”
“I really have no idea, but I think I need to speak to your brother.”
“Can I come?”
“I don’t think that is a good idea.” I knew Will had wanted to see Megan’s face first hand when we eventually told her.
“You are no fun.” Megan pulled a sad face but knew I wouldn’t give in.
“You do realise this other guy does not stand a chance against Will. He loves you too much. Will is never going to give you up now he knows you feel the same way.” Megan suddenly became serious as if she believed everything she was saying.
“Megan, I am not sure how I feel about your brother yet. I like him. I mean I really like him, but it is difficult for me to let someone in so close. Sometimes it scares me.”
“Will can wait. He knows you as well as me.” Megan beamed. “You know you really have to get over your abandonment issues at some point, Shannon.” I just glared at her now was not the time to talk about that.
I made my way over to Field Organisation deciding to take the tube to try clear my head. Dusk was falling yet London showed no sign of slowing down. Corner cafes overflowed with coffee drinkers. People rushed by not even taking notice of the traffic lights. These people never seemed to slow down. I noticed I was the only person ambling, being pushed as I got in peoples way.
Had Will lied? I could not get my head around it. As I entered his secretary’s office I began to shudder just at the thought. This was exactly the reason why I hated becoming too close to someone. At some point they would always let me down.
Chapter 8
I took a deep breath before entering Will’s office. His face lit up as soon as he saw me.
“This is a lovely surprise,” Will said softly as he kissed my cheek. “Are you finding it hard to go a whole day without me now?”
“Will, I need to talk to you. I am not sure how to start.” I knew I was speaking too fast. My breathing was all erratic. Will could see I was nervous.
“Shannon, what’s wrong?” Will asked anxious.
“I received another handwritten letter today,” I blurted out.
“Oh,” Will looked away from me. “I was hoping you wouldn’t receive another one that…”
“You didn’t write them did you?” I could tell by his face, I already knew the answer.
“No, I didn’t.” I began to walk out the door, but his hand grabbed my arm. “Let me explain before you go please.”
“You have five minutes and this better be good.” I glared at him.
“I really didn’t think he would ever write anymore seeing as he never approached you. I really didn’t see the harm. I couldn’t disappoint the hope I saw in your eyes. I could tell you wanted it to be me. I only wanted to give you everything you have ever dreamed of. I wish I could have been that romantic, but it is just not me. I am so sorry I lied to you, Shannon. I promise I will never do anything like that again. Can you forgive me?” Will had his hand on my face looking deep into my eyes waiting for my answer.
“Will, I need to think, I… I have to go.” I pulled away from him.
“Can I come and see you later?” He asked distressed.
“I will call you,” I replied turning to exit his office.
“Shannon, I am truly sorry. You believe me don’t you?” I just half smiled back at him as I left his office. I had no answer for him yet.
I made my way to the elevator almost numb, when someone shouted my name.
“Shannon is that you?” A male voice called. Tim Scott stood in front of me. Still as handsome as ever. He was still pursuing Megan even though she was with Charlie.
“Not today Tim, please. I am not in the mood,” I replied gloomily. I really wasn’t up for twenty questions about Megan right now.
“Is everything alright?” Tim asked.
“Yeah, I just have to be somewhere.”
“Is Megan…?”
“She is fine. Now please, if you will excuse me,” I replied stepping into the lift.
“No problem, see you soon,” Tim smiled at me as the doors closed.
I got a taxi back to the apartment, not really wanting to have to fight for space on the tube seeing as it was rush hour.
Charlie was laying across the sofa playing with his guitar.
“Hey, how did it go?” Megan asked from the kitchen looking really concerned.
“Not very good. I hope you don’t mind, but I am going to bed.”
“No Shan that is fine. We can talk in the morning,” Megan smiled. “I haven’t said anything to Charlie.”
“What haven’t you told me? I thought there were no secrets between us,” Charlie asked with incredible puppy eyes.
“This is girl stuff… butt out you,” Megan teased.
I half smiled back at them, as I entered my bedroom.
I lay awake all night. It was a strange feeling. I wasn’t really upset, just annoyed that Will had lied to me. My thoughts began to race as I realised my Mr Anonymous was still out there somewhere. The problem was did I really care now I had Will? My feelings for Will were strong. We connected on so many levels physically and mentally. However, to me something was missing. I had no idea what, but it was stopping me falling for him. The more I thought about it I realised how much I had counted on Will being Mr Anonymous. Now I knew it wasn’t him I found it harder to want to be with him.
It was about three in the morning when I decided I needed a drink. My mouth was so dry my lips were beginning to sting. I stood in the kitchen dazed wondering if I should have orange juice or make a coffee.
“Are you feeling any better, Shan?” a soft voice said.
“What are you doing up Charlie?” I asked stunned.
“I can’t sleep with Megan’s snoring,” he smirked.
“Megan does not snore,” I laughed punching his arm lightly.
“Are you alright though? You seemed really upset when you got back earlier.”
“Yeah, I just have a lot on my mind.” Charlie watched me in the faint light.
“Is this about Will?”
“What do you mean?” I asked taken aback.
“Shan, Will told me about you guys a few weeks ago.”
“He did?” Now I was even angrier with Will. How dare he tell someone. Charlie especially.
“And you didn’t tell Megan?” I suddenly realised.
“No, it wasn’t my secret to tell.” Charlie ran his hand through his ruffled dark brown hair. “So do you love him?”
“I…” I was taken aback by the question.
“You don’t have to tell me. It’s just Will has no idea how you feel about him.”
“That makes t
wo of us,” I replied finally taking some orange juice out of the fridge. “Do you want one?” I asked holding up the carton to Charlie.
“Yeah, thanks.”
I leaned across the counter reaching for two glasses, finding myself a little too close to Charlie. He had a manner towards all females that made them almost lose their balance. Charlie couldn’t help it, he was just unbelievably gorgeous. I felt one of the glasses slip out of my hand as I stared into his amazing blue-green eyes.
